You can out train a bad diet. And the only reason I know this, is because I\u2019ve done it.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">It\u2019s called doing months of traditional marathon running training.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Running 30-60 miles a week, plus 2-3 strength training sessions burns through a ton of calories. Duh\u2026\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/fatlossaccelerators.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/MP900422273.jpg\" rel=\"lightbox[5292]\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-4173\" src=\"http:\/\/fatlossaccelerators.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/MP900422273-300x300.jpg\" alt=\"How to Eat Cheat Meals and STILL Lose Fat\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"http:\/\/fatlossaccelerators.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/MP900422273-300x300.jpg 300w, http:\/\/fatlossaccelerators.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/MP900422273-150x150.jpg 150w, http:\/\/fatlossaccelerators.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/MP900422273.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>You can eat whatever you like, and still be losing weight, because your body is an energy guzzling machine. Boom!<\/p>\n<p>Back in 2011 while training for the NYC marathon, I had a monster appetite and could eat anything I wanted, while I continued to lose weight every week. (Weight loss wasn\u2019t my goal by the way\u2026)<\/p>\n<p>Bagels, pizza, bread, ice cream. It was ON and I couldn\u2019t get enough. I remember seeing the numbers drop and thinking to myself&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>\u201cawesome\u2026 could this really be happening?\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>But here\u2019s the #1 problem with this approach\u2026<\/p>\n<p>When you stop marathon training, you\u2019re in trouble. Big trouble. Breaking your monster appetite and addiction to carbs is brutal. More on that in just a moment.<\/p>\n<p>So instead, I think this popular saying should be re-worded to:<\/p>\n<h3><strong>\u201cYou can\u2019t out train your overconsumption of alcoholic beverages.\u201d \u2013 KV<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Call me a party pooper but there\u2019s no way to sugar coat the truth. These liquid calories do more than just add to your daily calorie intake\u2026 And the more you binge drink, the more trouble you\u2019ll run into.<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s why you can\u2019t out train the booze effect:<\/p>\n<h2>1. Dehydration<\/h2>\n<p>Alcohol is a powerful diuretic and can cause severe dehydration. This probably doesn\u2019t seem like a big deal on the surface, but if you\u2019re training hard, this is a major problem.<\/p>\n<p>You\u2019re at a greater risk for musculoskeletal injuries including cramps, muscle pulls, and muscle strains. Even just a slight tear or strain can be enough to sideline you.<\/p>\n<p>Dehydration can also lead to muscle mass loss, which results in a decrease in strength and performance.<\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019re in a dehydrated state before you even start a long run in the middle of a hot and humid NYC summer, good luck getting out the other side injury free. \ud83d\ude09<\/p>\n<h2>2. Alcohol shuts down fat-burning \ud83d\ude41<\/h2>\n<p>Think chemistry, not math. Sure the calories do add up (even if you skip meals and just drink) but it\u2019s the chemical reaction happening in your body that\u2019s the problem.<\/p>\n<p>If you don\u2019t care for the science geeky details, feel free to skip the next paragraph.<\/p>\n<p>Alcohol is converted to acetate by the liver, and the oxidation of acetate takes precedence over other nutrients (like carbs, fats and protein). So your body\u2019s first priority is to burn off the booze. This makes alcohol a potent inhibitor of lipolysis (aka the breakdown of fats and other lipids by hydrolysis to release fatty acids).<\/p>\n<p>While alcohol alone cannot cause fat gain \u2013 anything you eat in conjunction with alcohol intake will cause fat gain.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Bottom Line:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Cut out the booze. Get serious with your training and make your hard work count. And watch out for this new saying coming to a newsstand near you\u2026<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cYou can\u2019t out train your overconsumption of alcoholic beverages.\u201d \u2013 KV<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Unless you have a goal of running a marathon\u2026 Don\u2019t try to out train your diet with hour long sessions. SAVE YOUR ENERGY. Trust me, it\u2019s much easier to get shredded this way.
