Yep, I\u2019m a sucker for self-help books. But this book is different.<\/p>\n<p>His writing is thought provoking and downright hysterical at times\u2026 and if you need a little \u201cpep talk\u201d about life, I highly recommend you check it out. And\u2026<\/p>\n<p>It got me thinking about the different factors that make some people are successful and reach their goals\u2026 while others fall by the wayside.<\/p>\n<p>Here are the top 15 things smart tough people all do:<\/p>\n<h2>#1: Fail forward<\/h2>\n<p>Let\u2019s talk failure first, since it is THE most important factor to success.<\/p>\n<p>Here the thing\u2026<\/p>\n<p>The only way you make progress is to take action. The problem? Everything you try won\u2019t work. In fact, most of the time you\u2019ll stumble and fail.<\/p>\n<p>How do I know this?<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ve failed MORE times than I can remember. Truth is, most of the ventures I\u2019ve started have failed. And while at first I was upset about failing. Now I\u2019m cool with it. Why? It\u2019s the only way to success.<\/p>\n<p>You see, if you don\u2019t try (and keep trying different things) \u2013 you\u2019re not even in the game.<\/p>\n<p>So don\u2019t be afraid of failure. Sure. I know it&#8217;s really hard in the beginning and it doesn&#8217;t feel good. But it\u2019s all part of the process \u2013 and the better you become at failing \u2013 the more likely you\u2019ll succeed.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-7928\" src=\"http:\/\/fatlossaccelerators.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/failure.jpg\" alt=\"failure\" width=\"236\" height=\"236\" srcset=\"http:\/\/fatlossaccelerators.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/failure.jpg 236w, http:\/\/fatlossaccelerators.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/failure-150x150.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 236px) 100vw, 236px\" \/><\/p>\n<h2>#2: Be Courageous<\/h2>\n<p>It takes guts to go out on a limb and try something new. You have to be tough. So it\u2019s no surprise courage is a trait of smart and tough people.<\/p>\n<p>What\u2019s the difference between fear and courage?<\/p>\n<p>Dan Sullivan sums it up perfectly in this quote\u2026<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFear is wetting your pants. Courage is what you do with wet pants.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I couldn\u2019t agree with this more!<\/p>\n<h2>#3: Investment minded \u2013 not opportunity minded<\/h2>\n<p>I\u2019m not a fan of people who are also looking for the next \u201cmagic pill\u201d or quick fix. It\u2019s basically buying a solution. And known as having an opportunity mindset.<\/p>\n<p>Now don\u2019t get me wrong\u2026 it\u2019s great to look for opportunities! But more often than not, promises of \u201cinstant weight loss\u201d or \u201covernight riches\u201d is a load of bull.<\/p>\n<p>Nothing worth achieving happens overnight. That\u2019s why people who win the lottery often go bankrupt pretty quickly.<\/p>\n<p>And here\u2019s a great analogy of this&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-7932\" src=\"http:\/\/fatlossaccelerators.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Iceberg-300x234.jpg\" alt=\"Iceberg\" width=\"300\" height=\"234\" srcset=\"http:\/\/fatlossaccelerators.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Iceberg-300x234.jpg 300w, http:\/\/fatlossaccelerators.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Iceberg.jpg 720w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The truth is you need to think about investing \u2013 not only your money \u2013 but your time to apply what you learn and take action on it! (there it is again)<\/p>\n<p>If you change your mindset to play the long game, you\u2019re setting youtslef up for success from the get go.<\/p>\n<h2>#4: Eliminate negativity<\/h2>\n<p>Do you ever complain about a \u201cfriend\u201d being a Debbie downer\u2026. But you still hang out with them on a regular basis? Or a restaurant that has terrible service\u2026. But you keep going anyway?<\/p>\n<p>Stop it. Now.<\/p>\n<p>Getting rid of negative trolls from your life is hands down the best thing you can ever do.<\/p>\n<p>And not only should you eliminate negative people\u2026 but negative anything. Like the news, social media outlets or anything that makes you feel like crapiola.<\/p>\n<p>Yes, it might sound extreme\u2026 however I challenge you to cut the negativity from your life and see the difference.<\/p>\n<h2>#5: Don\u2019t let the small things get you down<\/h2>\n<p>Yep, you\u2019ve gotta be tough to handle rejection. Especially if you\u2019re trying lots of new things and failing forward on a regular basis.<\/p>\n<p>And some days, it will feel like the entire world is against you and you\u2019re spinning your wheels.<\/p>\n<p>However\u2026 don\u2019t let the small things get to you. By that, I mean only worry about the things YOU can control. For example, you can\u2019t control what other people think of you \u2013 so don\u2019t worry about it! And how other people react to your ideas \u2013 you can\u2019t control it!<\/p>\n<p>The truth is, it\u2019s a waste of time and energy.<\/p>\n<p>And when you look back on it, you\u2019ll think \u201cha, that was silly\u201d.<\/p>\n<h2>#6: Surround yourself with people better than you<\/h2>\n<p>You might have heard it\u2019s always best to be the \u201cdumbest person in the room\u201d or you\u2019re in the wrong room. It\u2019s true\u2026.<\/p>\n<p>And here\u2019s why\u2026<\/p>\n<p>You will learn so much more, and it automatically makes you play up a level. Same goes for fitness and health. Hang with folks stronger or fitter than you \u2013 or with similar goals to what you want to achieve \u2013 and it will instantly happen for you through osmosis. Just kidding \u2013 remember point #3. Nothing will magically happen.<\/p>\n<p>(Oh and ever watch the movie about the underdog team beating the champion and winning the game? That\u2019s the power)<\/p>\n<h2>#7: Plan Your Day<\/h2>\n<p>Smart people know TIME is their greatest asset. And the only thing you can never get back. That\u2019s why it\u2019s so important to plan your day the night before.<\/p>\n<p>Yes, the night before.<\/p>\n<p>You see, if you wait until the morning to plan your day, you\u2019ve already used up willpower and energy to think and create the list, when you oculd have hit the ground running.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ll be completely honest with you here. I never used to do this. And my days were long and chaotic. I couldn\u2019t think clearly, and I was never as productive as I could have been.<\/p>\n<p>However, once I made a point to get into the habit of planning my day the night before\u2026 it made a HUGE difference. It\u2019s very simple, but extremely powerful.<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s how to do it:<\/p>\n<p>List the 3 most important things you must accomplish that day to move yourself forward.<\/p>\n<p>Then\u2026 do it. Boom!<\/p>\n<p>See, now that wasn\u2019t so hard right?<\/p>\n<h2>#8: Be kind to your soul<\/h2>\n<p>I don\u2019t mean this in a woo-woo kinda way &#8211; even though the California life is definitely rubbing off on me&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>You see, your body can take a physical beating and recover from it. But your \u201csoul\u201d is different. Negative self-talk and hating on yourself takes it\u2019s toll after a while. So&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Be kind to yourself.<\/p>\n<p>Practice self-compassion.<\/p>\n<p>Sleep. Eat well. Avoid booze. Skip sugar. Be awesome. Repeat.<\/p>\n<h2>#9: Set MASSIVE goals and take action on it<\/h2>\n<p>The world\u2019s most successful people don\u2019t just set big goals\u2026. They set MASSIVE goals. Goals that change the lives of billions of people.<\/p>\n<p>Think about innovators like Steve Jobs, Elon Musk and Thomas Edison.<\/p>\n<p>Setting a goal is only half the battle. The big part comes when you have to take action on it! Dreaming about achieving a goal doesn\u2019t magically make it happen (but you probably know that already!)<\/p>\n<p>If it going to take so much time and work to reach your goal, why not make it HUGE?<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-7930\" src=\"http:\/\/fatlossaccelerators.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/tough-times-300x300.jpg\" alt=\"tough times\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"http:\/\/fatlossaccelerators.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/tough-times-300x300.jpg 300w, http:\/\/fatlossaccelerators.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/tough-times-150x150.jpg 150w, http:\/\/fatlossaccelerators.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/tough-times.jpg 612w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<h2>#10: Don\u2019t compare yourself to others<\/h2>\n<p>It\u2019s one of the worst habits ever \u2013 comparing yourself to other.<\/p>\n<p>And this is something I\u2019ve personally struggled with for years.<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s the thing\u2026<\/p>\n<p>You have no idea what \u201cchapter\u201d the other person is up to\u2026<\/p>\n<p>For example, if you\u2019ve just started a working out and changing your diet, you can\u2019t compare yourself to someone who has been following the program for 6 weeks already.<\/p>\n<p>Do you think it\u2019s fair to compare someone else\u2019s chapter 5 to your chapter 1?<\/p>\n<p>Of course not!<\/p>\n<p>Smart people only compete against themselves.<\/p>\n<h2>#11: Read Every Day<\/h2>\n<p>Taking time to learn and grow your mind is an obvious thing that all smart people do.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m a fan of real books with actual pages. Especially right before bed.<\/p>\n<h2>#12: Accept responsibility for your failures<\/h2>\n<p>This could be the most important trait all smart people possess\u2026Accepting responsibility. And heck, it\u2019s not easy!<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s the cold harsh truth\u2026<\/p>\n<p>You can\u2019t blame anyone but yourself for where you\u2019re at right now.<\/p>\n<p>When things go wrong, most people look to blame someone else\u2026 anything to avoid the pain of failure.<\/p>\n<p>Yet the sooner you take responsibility, the faster you\u2019ll be moving forward and making progress.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>#13: Give FIRST<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Feeling down in the dumps? Try helping someone else.<\/p>\n<p>It doesn\u2019t have to be giving money to charity. You can simply give your time, or go out of your way to help a friend who is struggling.<\/p>\n<p>And when you give\u2026 don\u2019t expect anything in return, either.<\/p>\n<p>Smart people give to others freely, without attaching any expectations.<\/p>\n<h2>#14: Get Enough Sleep<\/h2>\n<p>Some people brag about being able to function on 4-5 hours sleep every night.<\/p>\n<p>I call BS.<\/p>\n<p>You see, smart and tough people know how important it is to get 7-8 hours of quality sleep every night. And create healthy sleep habits \u2013 like no screens an hour before bed, and cutting out caffeinated beverages after 3pm (KV still needs to work on this one lol)<\/p>\n<p>After all, when you get more sleep, you balance your hormones so you regulate your appetite, perform better in the gym plus you can recover faster.<\/p>\n<p>Taking a quick nap in the afternoon is cool too. I usually try to sneak in 20-30 minutes, since I wake up at the crack of dawn everyday (5:09am to be precise). It\u2019s relaxing. Try it if you can.<\/p>\n<h2>#15: Workout<\/h2>\n<p>This final one is a no brainer, don\u2019t you think? \ud83d\ude09<\/p>\n<p>Exercise has SO many health benefits. But did you know exercise boosts your brain health and how even just walking stimulates your brain?<\/p>\n<p>Motion creates motion.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s why I LOVE exercising first thing in the morning. Even if it\u2019s just a 10 minute bodyweight workout!
