Here’s a 1 minute motivation booster and inspiring story to get you going on this fine day…
Over the weekend, a bunch of my friend’s and I were chatting about the Olympics. And…
It reminded of an unusual story about how Australia won their first gold medal at the Winter Olympics.
Holy CATS I love this story!
And there’s a powerful lesson, so I thought I’d share it with you too.
Steven Bradbury was the first Australian to EVER win a gold medal at the Winter Olympics in 2002. In fact, he was the first person from any southern hemisphere country to win a Winter Olympic event.
He even beat the world champion, Apolo Ohno.
In speed skating.
Now before you laugh… or think I’m pulling the wool over your eyes…
Here’s what happened…
In his semi-final race, Bradbury was in last place, WAY off pace of the medal favorites.
Then all of a sudden, 3 of his competitors crashed out, paving the way for him to take second place and advance through to the final.
But wait.
Then it happened again!
In the final, Bradbury was again way off pace… when this time ALL four of his competitors (including Apolo Ohno) crashed out at the FINAL corner while hustling for the gold medal.
Bradbury was so far behind (like 15 meters with only 50 meters to go)…
…he avoided the pile-up. And…
WON the race.
The GOLD medal.
And the first gold medal Australia had ever won at the Winter Olympics!
Isn’t that crazy?!
Even he was shocked.
He raised his arms aloft in complete disbelief and amazement at the unlikely circumstances of his victory. And…
After a period of delay, the judges upheld the result and didn’t order a re-race!
What’s the lesson here?
You can never, ever EVER give up.
It doesn’t matter if the odds are stacked against you. And you’re miles off pace.
Just focus on one step at a time. Keep going. Stay positive. Everyone goes through tough times in life… but it doesn’t last forever. So don’t quit. I know it’s hard, but you can do this!
If you’re still in the game, anything can happen!
Just something for you to think about.
Especially if you feel like throwing in the towel.
I believe in YOU!
