Feeling stressed? Listen, it’s just the holiday season…not the end of the world.

Anyway, the really bad news is I have to go Christmas shopping. In New York. Insanity.stress management and fat loss

If you’re time crunched and feeling the heat, here’s an awesome calming approach to the holidays – which can become more like horror-days if you leave everything to the last minute (come on, laugh that was a good one).

Let’s ROCK!

The 4 A’s to Stress Management

With the holidays just around the corner, STRESS is sure to take a drastic increase.

That, along with the excess intake of sugar and yummy treats, is recipe for packing on some on wanted pounds!

Did you know that stress can actually lead to weight gain?

As we evolved, one of the many stressors that our bodies prepared for was lack of food.  We didn’t have the convenience of the local grocery store so we had to haunt and gather our own foods. Sometime food was scarce and we went through a period of famine.  This was an extremely stressful situation for the body.

Now, because the body loves us so much, it evolved to handle these periods of time with little nutrition by making the body store fat and slowly release it when we haven’t eaten for awhile.

Pretty smart, right?

However, the body sees and reacts to all stress the same. And one of those ways is to store fat!

So whether you are stuck in a traffic jam, have your boss breathing down your neck, or have the in laws over for an extended holiday stay, your body is stressed and will hold onto fat!

So how do we control the amount of stress in our lives?

Follow the 4 A’s TO STRESS MANAGEMENT in order to add a little more health and sanity into the following several weeks!stress and fat loss

1. AVOID:

A LOT OF NEEDLESS STRESS CAN BE AVOIDED IF WE SIMPLY PLAN AHEAD AND PREPARE FOR THE STRESS THAT IS TO COME.

  • Hate standing on long lines and nasty people? Wake up a little earlier to hit the stores for your holiday stopping and avoid the rush of crazies!
  • Create a plan to get it all done in one day or stop online.

2. ALTER:

ASKING OTHERS TO CHANGE THEIR BEHAVIORS OR CHANGING YOUR REACTION TO CERTAIN EVENTS MAY PROVE TO BE VERY BENEFICIAL TO REDUCING STRESS.

  • Hate being the butt of your father in laws jokes around the dinner table? Don’t be afraid to communicate your feelings and ask him to chill out!    OR…
  • Change your behavior by arming yourself with an arsenal of quick one liners to send him whimpering back home!

3. ACCEPT:

SOMETIMES WE HAVE NO CHOICE BUT TO ACCEPT THINGS THE WAY THAT THEY ARE. IN THIS CASE…

  • See things as “teachable moments”. So you burned dinner. Accept it, learn from it, and order Chinese instead!
  • Be kinder to yourself. Sometimes when we are in a stressful situation, we allow negativity to take over. Allow yourself to be human. Accept your mistakes and failures by treating yourself like a friend, not an enemy.

4. ADAPT:

BY ADAPTING YOUR STANDARDS AND EXPECTATIONS YOU CAN COPE WITH STRESS A LITTLE EASIER:

  • Can’t afford 10 gifts for each child this year? See the big picture – do they really need all of those presents? Will they even WANT them all? Will that money be better spent somewhere else?
  • Didn’t get that holiday bonus this year? Don’t let it get you down. Look around you. You already have everything you need!

Alrighty, that’s it for now.

Have an awesome day!
