Last weekend I was hanging out at a fitness conference in Denver when I stumbled upon a bizarre sight.

First of all, I’ve been there before so I knew the deal with it being way less busy than New York. People walking down the street on weekends in basically non-existent.

Anyway, around lunchtime Saturday we escaped for fresh air to grab a bite. Low and behold, the city was pumping. The streets were totally jammed – with people dressed like ZOMBIES! Seriously, I thought the altitude must being doing weird things to the minds of these mountain people. Apparently it’s an annual parade. Perfect timing.

Next week is Halloween – AH HA!One food to avoid

Americans love Halloween. And candy.

To be completely honest with you, so do I (the candy – not Halloween so much). I used to eat candy as if it were Halloween everyday, just without the crazy dress up action.

It turns out this sugar addiction was a total trick. Endlessly munching on lollies, sugar and other sweet deliciousness did nothing for my waistline, and eventually I ballooned out to resemble a puffer fish (I guess that was my fancy dress costume?)

You see, candy and fat loss are polar opposites. In fact, the sugar will totally backflip your fat loss plans and slow your progress.

How can you avoid evil sugar craving attacks?

It’s hard to be disciplined 24/7, so you have to be strategic.

Coming from an ex-junkie, I have a few tricks up my sleeve to beat down sugar and help you stay clean. Instead of depriving yourself and going completely nuts, a few simple food swaps will keep you in control and satisfied.

5 Quick Tips to Beat Sugar Addictions

  1. Grab fresh fruit: Put down the delicious chocolate and replace it with an apple, berries or grapefruit.
  2. Keep your house clean: Lock the doors and cupboards and keep the tempting treats out of your house. There is an unspoken guarantee that any food in your cupboard, you will eventually eat. It won’t throw itself out…
  3. Avoid processed crap: Anything in a packet is absolute garbage and if it’s sweet, check the label now. I bet you a coffee any of these four words are listed on the ingredients somewhere – High, fructose, corn, syrup. This little monster will make you fat.
  4. Munch on protein: A classic fat loss mistake is lack of protein at breakfast. Boiled eggs, yoghurt, protein shake are perfect choices. Switch it up today and the sugar cravings will stop calling.
  5. Drink water: Sure this one sounds generic. It’s an easy fit on every list because it’s really important! Make sure you guzzle at least 3L everyday. Hate water? Drink beer instead – ah no sorry that’s a joke. Try adding lemon to spice it up.

OK so now you have an action plan to sidestep sugar. What about looking awesome in your Halloween costume?

Tomorrow I’ve got a cool metabolic mash up coming your way that I know you will dominate.

Until then watch out for zombies,
