Over the years, I’ve been in the gym enough to see a lot of “fresh faces” that have just started a brand new workout regime.
These are the people who come in with good intentions on day one, only to fall off the wagon and never be seen again.
I’ve noticed a few things in particular that every one of these trainees has in common…
They ALL have high expectations but lack the proper planning required to get sexy results.
And there’s absolutely no reason you should fail like this. But you have to make sure you follow specific guidelines and avoid the stupid workout mistakes that can stop your fat loss.
4 Workout Mistakes That STOP Your Fat Loss
1. Only Doing Cardio
If you read my newsletters, then you probably know by now I’m not a fan of traditional cardio.
So many people are busy counting calories and energy expenditure; they forget the most important thing to keep your metabolism sky rocketing – intensity.
That’s why you should avoid steady state workouts on the elliptical or dreadmill, especially when you start exercising. After all, have you ever wished for a body like a skinny marathoner? I think not…
High intensity intervals also help with building lean muscle, boosting your metabolism, and boosting you fat-burning hormones.
2. Overdoing It
You know the saying, “Rome wasn’t built in a day”. Well, the same goes for getting back in shape.
You should always be conservative when getting back into exercising, but it’s especially important after a long layoff or injury.
Destroying yourself on the first workout will leave you feeling awfully sore and discourage you from sticking with it. Remember, consistency equals results.
Just make sure you don’t overdo it.
3. Quitting Too Soon
This one always kills me because I hate quitters!
You didn’t gain those extra 20 pounds overnight, so you can’t expect to lose it just as quickly.
Instead of giving up, quit being so impatient. And don’t forget about the highly controversial ‘WHOOSH’ effect.
Even the toughest fat loss plateaus eventually experience a ‘whoosh’ effect where your body weight rapidly drops. This happens because of a strange biological twist of fate in your fat cells.
If you’re tired of trying every workout plan and diet available, stop quitting and stay the course.
4. Overcomplicating It
Most people don’t achieve their number one goal because they make things way too complicated.
The principles are the same, not matter what your goals. Focus on just a few of the 1-3 big things that give you the biggest return on investment.
And research shows accountability in the form of a personal trainer, workout buddy or friend/family member is key for getting results.
For some reason people stupidly think they don’t need any help and have enough determination and willpower to succeed.
Set yourself up for success this year by keeping things as simple as possible. And this is really only the beginning…
Go hard and rock on!
