Yesterday at the gym, one of my fellow trainers was reviewing his client’s weekly nutrition on the iPad. No, it wasn’t our friend the cookie monster again…

I could overhear the good old “count your calories, workout more, eat less” lecture about fat loss, as he advised her to do 30 minutes on the elliptical everyday to speed up results.

Really?

Un-freakin-believable.

If you think that all you have to do in order to lose fat is to burn more calories than you consume…

…sorry, but you’ve been misinformed.

That, my friend, is the #1 fat loss lie.

Think about it – if it were that easy, wouldn’t we all be walking around with six-pack abs, minus the thousands of books on diet and exercise?

In fact, it’s why we end up even more frustrated…

…we spend more time working out and still… NOTHING.

The thing is, working out longer can actually cause you to STORE more fat.

Boom. Bad news.

The “bad guy” hormone is cortisol, a hormone that actually PROMOTES fat storage AND muscle breakdown. And longer workouts create more of this hormone in your body. Now if you’re 19 and shredded, you probably don’t have a problem with cortisol. But for most of us, those days are gone, and so our workouts need to change.

So if you’re not seeing the results in the mirror, it’s not your fault. You simply just need to “shift” your hormones into fat burn mode with shorter workouts. But it’s not as simple as just cutting your workouts in half.
